Had a nice but cold morning out birding. Started at Armleder. Highlights: 1
MERLIN (perched on last stop sign before you reach the river on the paved
loop headed toward the beanfield; EXCELLENT look), 6 Savannah Sparrows
(same area), 6 Eastern Meadowlarks (group flying around the paved loop), &
huge group of about 200 Red-winged Blackbirds with at least 2 RUSTY
BLACKBIRDS mixed in.
On to East Fork where I picked up a few more year birds. Highlights: best
bird was 1 female RED-BREASTED MERGANSER off Reisinger Rd boat ramp. This
was the only waterfowl on the lake. 1 Bonaparte's Gull remained on the
beach with the Ring-bills & Herrings. 1 Bald Eagle flying roadside while
driving 133. 1 Rough-legged Hawk perched & then flying roadside of Old St
Rt 32. Great day! Now sitting at 94 for January. Never tried for 100 in
January hopefully this will be the year!
