Stopped at Summit Lake today at lunch. As I was parking, what I thought was a female mallard landed near the dock at the community center. When I stepped on, an American bittern flushed from immediately to the right. I watched for 80 seconds, in glorious sunshine, as it followed the shoreline around to the cattails behind the old Margaret Park school.
