I spent most of the morning biking around this south Columbus Park looking for migrants this morning. It's still mostly temperate migrants with only a few others. I was ablwe to bird from the Confluence area up through the Borrow Pits and Heron Pond all the way north to the Oxbow area. Notables included:
Flickers - one of the most common woodpeckers today. Oddly, sapsuckers were absent from the area.
Pileated Woodpecker - 1 was drumming in the Confluence area
Phoebes - 3-4, around most of the path bridges over Alum Creek
Swallows - Trees were widespread, while 2 Rough-wings were around Heron Pond, and 2 Barn were around the old Smith Farm buildings.
Vireos - 1 Blue-headed was singing along the Confluence Trail, while a FOS Warbling was singing at Heron Pond
Kinglets - 4-5 Ruby-crowns, mostly around the Confluence area; fewer Golden-crowns
Gnatcatchers - 1-2 at both the Confluence area and the Oxbow Area
Hermit Thrushes - 1 singing at Confluence, another near the Borrow Pits
Brown Thrasher - singers at several locations; 2 were along the edges at the Confluence area
Yellow-throated Warblers - good day for them, with 9 in 3 hours along the entire stretch of Alum Creek
Other Warblers - 1 Pine was singing near the Borrow Pits, and 3-4 Yellow-rumps were around the Confluence area
Sparrows - nothing unusual, though there were large #s of Field and White-throated at many areas along the trail. 6-8 Chipping were singing at the Confluence pines, a typical spot for them.
Blackbirds - lots of Redwings, Grackles, and Cowbirds, but nothing else
Meadowlarks - 1 was singing in the old farm fields of Smith Farms
