I rode up to Conneaut with Ryan Golterman today in search of shorebirds, etc., and was not disappointed. We arrived about 10:30 AM and right off the bat were pointed to the SNOWY PLOVER. A wow bird which was very cooperative throughout our visit. We missed red knot and ruddy turnstones which were there earlier in the morning, but did see these shorebirds: 7 semipalmated plovers, spotted sandpiper, 4 sanderlings, 35 semipalmated sandpipers, 6 white-rumped sandpipers, 4 dunlins, and a very late pectoral sandpiper (my first ever in June). Also present were green heron, osprey, 2 bald eagles, great black-backed gull, belted kingfishers, purple martins, and bank swallows. We left at around 2:00 PM, and the snowy plover was still there. It was great to see a good number of birding friends there too! Craig H
