We enjoyed finding four first-of-year warblers yesterday at Columbus
Audubon Metro Park (Franklin County): yellow, palm, hooded, and
blackpoll. eBird had me verify the blackpoll, so I'm wondering if this is
an early sighting. I feel comfortable about the ID, as we watched him for
a couple minutes, along with two rangers on bikes, comparing the field
marks of a black-and-white warbler. This one definitely had the black cap,
less streaking on breast, and orange legs. Lots of blue-gray gnatcatchers,
and a brilliantly colored yellow-bellied sapsucker. Brilliant sunshine but
crisp temperatures.
