AtBlendon Woods Metro Park (Franklin County) activity was slow during the earlymorning but about 11:00 AM things went crazy. Maybe the sequester of the airtraffic controllers held the birds up. Suddenly there were warblers everywhereon the Overlook Trail and Brookside Trail. The best sighting was a Worm-eatingWarbler that fed around us then perched on the end of a branch directly overthe trail right in front of us. Several other warblers tried to copy theWorm-eating Warbler, including Cerulean, Blackpoll, Blackburnian andBlack-throated Green, but all they all came up short. Some other good birdsincluded Blue-headed Vireo, Summer Tanager, Acadian Flycatcher and a pair of RuddyDucks at Thoreau Lake.
In theearly afternoon we checked on activity at Area M/N of the Hoover NaturePreserve in Galena (Delaware County). There was a Caspian Tern with theRing-billed Gulls on the boardwalk and the Tree Swallows and ProthonotaryWarblers are staking their claims to the new nest boxes I installed along theboardwalk. The old road in Area N produced numerous Prothonotary Warblers plusPalm, Yellow, Yellow-throated, Northern Parula and lots of Yellow-rumpedwarblers. Other birds there Blue-winged Teal, Red-headed Woodpecker, GreatCrested Flycatcher and an Osprey.
