This morning we birded Wilderness Rd. and Funk Bottoms areas plus Prairie
Lane south of Wooster. I was at Wilderness Rd. two days ago and there were
lots of shorebirds. Today, the shorebird numbers were way down from just 2
days ago. The water there was also way down from 2 days ago (two big pumps
working), but there was still nice shorebird habitat in some areas there.
The only bird of note was one black-bellied plover. The rest were mostly
killdeer and semipalm plovers and a few spotted sandpipers. Not a peep in
sight! We checked a few other areas and nothing more of note. At Prairie
Lane, where there was quite good habitat a week ago (and no pumping),
things had really dried up quite a bit. There were a few least sandpipers
way off, plus killdeer, but that was about it.
Disappointing, but they are calling for a lot more rain this mid-week, so
hope springs eternally. Randy Rowe, Wooster
