Hello all,
The Middle Harbor mudflats at East Harbor SP are a must-visit this fall.
The mudflats are at the north end of the impoundment, and accessed via Buck
Rd. and the West Harbor hiking trail. Keith Norris and I made a relatively
brief stop there this afternoon and tallied 14 species of shorebirds.
Semipalmated Plover 60
Killdeer 10-12
Spotted Sandpiper 4
Greater Yellowlegs 2
Lesser Yellowlegs 15
Sanderling 2
Semipalmated Sandpiper ~200 (another or the same leg-flagged ad. noted,
though mud obscured color + code)
Least Sandpiper ~75
White-rumped Sandpiper 1 presumed 1st summer
Baird's Sandpiper 2 presumed molting alt. ad.
Pectoral Sandpiper 17+
Stilt Sandpiper 1 fresh juv.
Short-billed Dowitcher (Prairie) 6 fresh juv.
Wilson's Phalarope 1 juv., loosely assoc. w/ LEYE
