Paula and I are currently on a road trip to San Diego. We left Tiffin
on January 20. I guess we have missed some great weather. Yesterday,
in Lake Havasu City, AZ it was a cool 74...
But that isn't the purpose of this email. Ron Minard, of Seneca
County, sent me an email and photo yesterday of a bird that was found
by a farmer near McCutchenville on Wednesday. The farmer found the
bird sitting in a snow covered field on the side of the road. It is
currently in an animal rehab place in Upper Sandusky. The photograph
shows a beautiful adult male White-winged Scoter in near breeding
plumage. I don't have all my records with me but this maybe Seneca
County's third record and first winter record.
I believe the bird probably tried to land on an icy road thinking it
was a body of open water. Hopefully it survives.
