The temperate migrants are starting to show up in central Ohio now, as I saw along Big Walnut Creek in Gahanna yesterday and in 3-Creeks Park today. Yesterday's bird-du-jour was E.Phobes, with 7+ in a bit over an hour in 2 parks along Big Walnut Creek (along with the 5-6 reported from Blacklick Woods by Dillon & others). Today was a smorgasbird of temperate migrants, including:
Sapsuckers - 2-3, at several different spots
Tree Swallows - 20+ squabbling over nest cavities at Cruiser Pond
BrownCreepers - at least 2 at different spots
BrownThrashers - 3 at 3 different spots, including Groveport Blacklick Bikepath and Oxbow area of AlumCreek Bikepath
Kinglets - Golden-cr.s widespread, but also had 1st Ruby-cr., along the Groveport Blacklick Bikepath
AmerPipits - 2-3 in fields around Cruiser Pond
E.Towhees - good numbers at most stops, topped by 3 along Groveport Blacklick Bikepath
Field Sparrows - small numbers in many places, including singing birds near Cruiser Pond
Chipping Sparrow - 1 singing along the Groveport Blacklick bikepath
Fox Sparrow - 1 singing along Groveport Blacklick bikepath
Juncos - small numbers at many different spots
E.Meadowlark - 1 calling in field north of Cruiser Pond
Redwinged Blackbirds - widespread, including the first flock of females
Grackles & Cowbirds - common & widespread
