There is little to no shorebird habitat at Deer Creek right now. But the
beach is always worth a stop. During the last three days:
Tues. eve - The usual 100+ Ring-billed gulls, 6 Caspian Terns, 1
Semipalmated Sandpiper, 1 Osprey, Killdeer, Double-crested Cormorants,
Great Blue Herons. The Dick Road wetland was a Wood Duck factory this
summer, Pied-billed Grebes, lots of swallows, 1 Belted Kingfisher.
Weds. morning at the beach - the usual RBGU and KILL, 2 Spotted Sandpipers,
9 Common Terns flew in, 2 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 1 Sanderling (first
year). The middle wetland holds 100+ Wood Ducks, Pied-billed Grebes,
Blue-winged Teal. Eastern Kingbirds are everywhere. Swallows also -
Purple Martins, Barn, Cliff, Rough-winged for certain. No shorebird
habitat.
Thurs AM at the beach - 2 Ospreys, 1 Sanderling, 1 Forster's Tern (first
year), 3 Least Sandpipers, plus the RBGU and KILL.
