The September 23rd Local Patch boat trip out of Vermilion covered 70+ miles of open water in Erie and Lorain Counties. At 17 miles offshore, a quarter mile from the Canadian border, a juvenile Sabine's Gull put on a show for 35 minutes. Several Black Terns were additional highlights. Common Terns frequented waters 13 to 17 miles offshore, as did Bonaparte's Gulls.
