Clear Creek MP was pretty quiet this AM although one Worm-eating Warbler was trilling at the same spot as yesterday on the Hemlock Trail. YT, B&W & N Parula also. Did add Red-eyed Vireo & RC Kinglet.
I checked out Conkles Hollow where I had at least 3 La WTs, v vocal & some chasing around. Heard BT Greens & a perched & singing Indigo Bunting was a treat. Brown Thrashers at Clear Creek & Conkles.
At Zaleski, Prairie Warblers were singing at several spots & I got wonderful looks at Blue-winged & BT Green warblers. At one point I had 3 Prairies singing & fell into a warbler vortex where I couldn't get on a single one but finally one perched & sang cooperatively, although the blinding white sky behind it lessened the experience some. Also heard YB Cuckoo.
At Lake Hope, at the odd hour of 2pm, I heard 2 warblers singing nonstop--ceruleans! The closer one was high in a red oak just leafing out right by the lodge. It took forever to finally spot it but the searching yielded a male Rose-breasted GB, Yellow-rumped Warbler, male Orchard Oriole, another RE Vireo, & Great Crested FC! Quite a tree. Oh, & flyby pileated WP & Coopers Hawk.
My gps took me on an interesting route back to Lake Logan where I spotted 3 Mergansers from the marina near the dam. In the scope, they appeared to be Red-breasted, not common: distinct white wing patch, shaggy crests & white throats. Don't think I've seen these on Lake Logan before.
I finally picked up 2 Black Vultures for the trip over the lake & had another osprey fly over.
12 warblers plus Y-rumped for trip. Not bad for the weather & early migration.
