Summer doldrums were much in evidence at these two Metroparks south of
Columbus. Many residents were around, though not always easily seen. I
also stopped at Bareis Preserve between the two parks, and had a good list,
with nothing very unusual. Water levels at all 3 parks were very high (I
was sloshing through parts of the trails in all 3), so shorebirds and
waterfowl were not much in evidence. Notables included

Great Egrets - the common waterbird this morning, with 3 at Walnut Woods
and 9 at Pick Ponds
Cuckoos - Yellow-billeds at all 3 parks, but also had a Black-billed fly by
at Bareis Preserve
Flycatchers - lots of Pewees, Willows, and Great Cresteds at each park
Warblers - nothing unusual, but lots of Yellows and CommonYellowthroats
Yellow-br.Chats - 2 singing birds at Walnut Woods, and another along the
Meadowlark Trail at Pick Ponds.
Rose-br.Grosbeak - birds at Bareis & Pick Ponds
Orioles - Baltimores at many locations, but also had Orchards at Walnut
Woods and the Wood Duck picnic area at Pick Ponds.
