The following letter was initially sent out earlier this year however
we omitted to include the Alcohol and Temperance History Group in our
mailing list. Could you please ensure that subscribers receive this
letter and request an urgent response as a selection must be made by
January 1997.
Dear....
I have been asked by the Jellinek Memorial Fund to serve as the Chair
for the Selection Committee for the 1997 Jellinek Award.
The category for the 1997 Award will be "Social, cultural and policy
studies".
The awardee may be selected from any country, the sole criterion being
the scientific contribution of the person (or persons) has made within
the selected category. The Award is to be given to the person deemed
to have made, during the preceding years, the greatest scholarly
contribution to human knowledge of problems relating to alcohol in the
designated research area. The person selected for the Award should be
someone who would provide an example and serve as a model of others
who might be attracted to work in the field.
I would be very grateful if you could share this request with your
colleagues and look forward to receiving nominations for this award.
Yours sincerely,
Associate Professor Sally Casswell
Director
Alcohol & Public Health Research Unit
