Did a quick bird tour at John Bryan State Park this morning. In addition to
every chipping sparrow on the planet, we found the following:

Pileated WP
Downey WP
Red Bellied WP
Hairy WP
White Eyed Vireo (a very tame and cooperative juvenile)
Red Eyed Vireos (many)
Brown Thrashers
Red Breasted Nuthatch
White Breasted Nuthatch
Scarlet Tanagers
Eastern Wood Peewees
Eastern Phoebes
Great Crested Flycatchers
Cedar Waxwings
Black and White Warbler
Blue Winged Warbler
Nashville Warbler
Blackburnian Warbler
Magnolia Warbler
Chestnut Sided Warbler (including an interesting transitional plumaged
individual with the typical green back seen in fall, but still retaining chestnut
flank stripes)
Blackpoll Warbler
Pine Warbler
Canada Warbler
American Redstart
Turkey Vultures in the roosting tree by lower picnic area outhouse
+ all the other usual suspects (chickadees, robins, etc...)

I had the good fortune to bird this morning with Nick Boutis, Executive
Director of the Glen Helen Ecology Institute, which is adjacent to John Bryan State
Park and which is a large protected area with good wildlife. He indicated
that the institute could use some more skilled birders for their Big Day bird
count on May 10th. Those interested should mark their calendars.

Lastly, the weather this morning was spectacular. What a way to start the
holiday weekend!

Good Birding
