Hi all,
I went outside this morning at about 6:15 to see what was happening and I'm glad I did. I heard a few birds moving and decided to stay out to see what happened. Small numbers of migrants were moving and it was fun to try to pick out things by night flight call. Around 7:00 a large wave of migrants (mostly warblers) hit. Many kept going over but a large number landed in or around my yard. I counted 646 individual warblers (I'm sure I missed some) and Identified about 130 of them. Species seen (a few heard only) were:
Warblers: American Redstart -6
Cape May Warbler -12
Magnolia Warbler -10
Mourning Warbler - 1 in bushes along driveway
Black-throated Green Warbler -2
Black-throated Blue Warbler - 1 (night flight call only)
Canada Warbler - 3 (!!!)
Yellow Warbler - 1 seemed very late
Common Yellowthroat - 5 (3 by call)
Wilson's Warbler-11
Blackburnian Warbler -4
Tennessee Warbler -21
Bay-breasted Warbler-10
Palm Warbler-2
Nashville Warbler-1
Black and White Warbler - 1
Thrushes: Swainson's Thrush -15 alot landed and were giving night flight "peep" on ground
Gray-cheeked Thrush -4
Veery-1
Other Migrants:
Purple Finch -5
Red-breasted Nuthatch -19!! many seen flying over.
Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 1
Cedar Waxwing -8
Ruby-throated Hummingbird -11
Swamp Sparrow -2
Bobolink -3 (night flight call)
Chimney Swift -114
Flycatcher sp. - 6
Needless to say I was late for school.
Enjoy Migration,
Phil Chaon.
