Heard the great horned owls again tonight, dueting near the old nest site. You should not count owls until they're hatched, but I am now even more hopeful.
I was wondering what owls might catch for food, given a crusted over snow cover, but tonight I noticed hundreds of tracks on the snow in the woods. There are many prey above the ice, and I assume the owls will do just fine.
