I took a vac B-day and went to Wildwood State Park on the east side of Cleveland this morning from 11:00am to after 4:30pm. I was able to bird with Mark Anderson from around 1 to 3:30pm. It started lightly raining after 3pm. There were northeast winds, it was already cold but became colder near the end. Mostly Yellow-rumped Warblers today, White-throated and more White-crowned Sparrows. Were multiple hundreds of Common Grackles and European Starlings filled the woods. Here are some of the birds we saw today:
Black-crowned Night-Heron 2 adults
Bonaparte's Gull - only 1
Chimney Swifts - 40+ (came very low to the ground today)
Eastern Phoebe - 1
Red-breasted Nuthatch 2 (pine tree near trailer park fenceline)
White-breasted Nuthatch 2
Winter Wren 1, House Wren 1
Golden-crowned Kinglet 6-7, Ruby-crowned ~ 20
Hermit Thrush 3, un'ID thrush 2
European Starlings 150+
Warblers:
Orange-crowned 1 (near lake asphalt path around 3:45pm in rain)
Nashville 3
Yellow-rumped 45+
Palm 1
Wilson's 1
Eastern Towhee 1, Song Sparrow 4-5, White-throated 40+, White-crowned 16-18
Dark-eyed Junco 15+
Common Grackle 150+
Also, on Sunday, October 11th Mark & I saw two Eastern Meadlowlarks in the field north of the library
Sims Park - Euclid 10/16 after 10am
Red-breasted Mergansers - only 17 in water east of park
Double-crested Cormorants - 80 seen in 13 minutes flying east
Eastern Phoebe 1
Many Juncos, Yellow-rumps, White-throated Sparrows
