Fantastic movement of birds today. It started out great with a group of 50
Bonaparte's gulls that contained one little gull. It actually was fair
after that and then around 9:30 gulls and waterfowl started pouring by.
Lots of ring-billed gulls and red-breasted mergansers. There were a lot
more goldeneye and common mergansers than I have seen in the last couple
weeks. It seems as the weather gets colder their numbers tend to go up. Of
note waterfowl-wise were white-winged and surf scoters and a female
long-tailed duck. I also had 3 distant dark winged scoters. Other than the
little gull, the only other gull of note was a glaucous.
With the predicted cold temperatures and winds predicted for the next
several days look for a lot of good movement on the lake.
The mergansers and gulls are still going by, but the number has decreased a
bit. It is a good day to check the lake and some of the harbors.
