Hi all,
Mark Vass had a flock of 22 American Avocets fly into Conneaut Harbor at 7:00 this evening. They were resting with the gulls on the sandbar close to the west jetty at 7:35 when I arrived. They flushed up with the gulls in response to a dog at about 7:50, and circled at high altitude for about five minutes, before forming a wedge and flying east towards the east jetty. They were not seen again.
Also present:
7+Semipalmated Plovers
3 juv. Red Knots
10 Sanderlings
several Least Sandpipers
2 juv. Stilt Sandpipers
2 juv. Short-billed Dowitchers
Good birding,
Ben Coulter
