Monday afternoon about 5 pm I did a drive through the main park at
Englewood Metropark and found . . . nothing. That is until I was leaving
and spied a pair of Rough-legged Hawks in the field at the parks exit at
the intersection of Pattys Road and Fredericks Pike. Both were dark
morph. One was perched in the big tree in the middle of the field and the
other hunting, hovering at various spots over the field. I watched for
about 15 minutes and saw three unsuccessful stoops before I had to go.
These were the first Rough-legged Hawks for me at Englewood Metropark and
a very exciting find on a cold Monday afternoon.
