Greetings from the parched and dusty Swamp,
One of our most unusual sightings took place today as we drove over to Paulding late this morning. Each of us spotted a rather unusual-looking bird standing on a power line along the road. As we passed it, we both realized it was an Upland Sandpiper, a bird we haven’t seen for more than six years in our county! Still in shock at the sight of this field bird balancing on a wire, we stopped the car in the middle of the road, and it was still there and it was still an Upland. This is not only the most unusual location for such a bird but also a very early individual. Most of our sightings have come in late July or early August.
See, it pays to check out those power lines. You just never know...
Bird long and prosper,
Doug & Micki Dunakin
