My son, Jack Stenger, asked me to post this report for him. While traveling south on I-71 from Columbus to Cincinnati this afternoon at around 3:15 pm, Jack saw 38 Snow Geese (13 blue, 25 white) on a borrow pit right alongside I-71, just north of the West Lancaster/Washington Courthouse exit # 67 in Fayette County. The exact location of the borrow pit is on the southeast side of I-71 and east of the US 35 overpass. Other waterfowl present included about 150 Canada Geese, 100 Mallards and a single American Black Duck. The geese weren't actually in the water but loafing on the grassy berm ringing the pit.
Jack took the exit and found a side road that allowed him to get within about a hundred yards of the borrow pit. A scope would be useful. To get to this spot, take exit # 67 and go east on OH 435 about .7 of a mile. Just beyond the US 35 exit ramps, turn left/north onto an unmarked road. Follow this road until it dead ends. The geese could be seen from there.
