I am a new subscriber living in Salem, OH, adjacent to the Kent State Regional Campus here. I walk the campus and feed the birds at home on a daily basis.

This week so far, I've had rufous sided tohees (mulitples), two yellow-shafted flickers, lots of robins, the usual downies and red bellies, cardinals, black capped chicadees, titmice, white crowned sparrows, gold finches, house finches, dark eyed juncos, house sparrows, chipping sparrows, song sparrows, starlings, morning doves, redwinged blackbirds, blue jays, cardinals, brown-headed cowbirds, grackles, and starlings at my feeders. The phoebes came back three weeks ago and sing every morning. Bluebirds have been singing since February. I've heard pileated woodpeckers and barn owls and seen brown thrashers and killdeer. A Canada goose is sitting on a nest at the school pond, and wood ducks have been hanging around, too. Many of the males are in breeding plumage. The season is upon us!

joyously greeting another spring,

jay in Salem, OH
