Hey all,
I took advantage of the awesome weather this morning and made a stop down
by Lake Erie in the Lorain Harbor area. There are still great numbers of
RB Mergansers doing their mating displays (which is worth the trip just to
watch) and scaups. While watching the ducks from the car a male and
female surf scoter swam out into view. The scoters gave EXCELLENT close-
up views I didn't even need binocs to see the ducks especially the males
spectacular bill. The scoters were in the public boat launch area right
behind the powerplant off Route 6 just west of Lorain City Hall. I took
many photos but still haven't processed them yet but will later and I'll
post at Rarebird in the Northeast Ohio forum later today for those
interested who can't get over to Lorain.
Also at the Spizter Marina area there is also still great concentrations
of RB Mergs, Scaups, a few Canvasbacks, one Common Goldeneye, and a couple
Buffleheads that I saw there.
Take Care,
Matt Vosniak
