Saturday, among 100+ loons around Lorain, was one individual which either had a
deformed bill or - if such a creature exists - was a common x yellow-billed
loon. Seen from close range just east of the marina parking lot, the culmen
was straight, emphasizing the gonydeal angle and creating an up-turned
appearance. Otherwise, the bill coloration was the same as other immature
common loons nearby: dark at the tip and lighter toward the base, or opposite
what a yellow-billed should be. Not really anything else distinguishing about
this individual.
Also, saw the brant and a surf scoter at Edgewater CLSP.
Peace,
