I was thinking about what had attracted 17 nighthawks to the
fields at home last night, and wondered if they had been attracted
to the green darners. I've had just huge numbers of darners swarming
over the fields for the last three days.

Looking for information I came across this interesting description from
the Minnesota Dragonfly Society:

> On several occasions in the fall, I have observed flocks of migrating Common Nighthawks flying
>
> above swarms of Common Green Darners, both creatures feeding on masses of smaller flying insects.
>

> I have never once seen the nighthawks eat a darner, and both species tend to keep to their own space.
>

> The relationship appears to exist only due to the concentration of small insect prey.
