While canoeing om Mogadore Reservoir on Thurs. Aug.7, 2008 near Kent, I observed an eastern kingbird repeatedly crash landing into the water about 30 yards from shore. It was completely wet when it returned to a perch overhanging the water. Was it hunting, bathing, drinking, playing or..??? I have observed this type of kingbird behavior several times in the past. Any opinions?
Also I observed 6 kingbirds, 8 green backed herons, 1 black crowned night heron and numerous great blues as I dealt with the wind and waves.
Canoes and rowboats are for rent at the reservoir and it is a fun way to bird on this small lake that allows only electric motors and has a crenulated forested shoreline with numerous coves, islands and marsh areas.
