After Charlie B.'s band of birders broke up early this afternoon, a couple
of us decided we weren't through birding yet so we went to Alum Creek Dam
and Beach.
Walking across the dam, we counted 33 American coots, 5 allards, 1 pied-
billed grebe, and 5 horned grebes.
At the beach we saw a large mixed flock of gulls. The flock contained
ring-billed gulls and herring gulls of varying ages. Several Bonaparte's
gulls and killdeer were in the mix, too. On the laawn behind the sign
with the big 2 on it, 4 or 5 horned larks were feeding.
