I just wanted to add my morning sighting to the list of those folks who have
seen the kite in the afternoon. I went down to Logan on Saturday,
well-fueled after a nice pancake breakfast provided by my wife. I arrived at
the "kite spot" at the golf course at 10:40 am, and was promptly rewarded by
a good view of a single Mississippi Kite as it was harassed by two smaller
birds, unfortunately too far away to identify. I had another sighting about
10 minutes later, and then headed back up to Columbus to get in some atlas
work at Sharon Woods. I managed to add about 8 confirmations, mainly of
common birds that I knew had to be breeding in my block but hadn't managed
to get confirmation on before.
Back to the kites: It seems to me from all the recent reports that kite
activity is pretty high, and that an observer stands a very good chance of
seeing one pretty much any time of the day.
