The groundwater-fed slough along CanalRoad in Pickaway County continues to
host the seasonally accidental AMERICAN BITTERN. There were several other
species of note present today at about 11:15 AM: one AMERICAN PIPIT, one
WILSON'S SNIPE, and numbers of Swamp Sparrows, Song Sparrows, Northern
Cardinals, and American Tree Sparrows were using the slough. A MERLIN
perched high in a cottonwood overlooking the slough may explain the absence
of a Killdeer last found on the 8th. I'm sure it will find the snipe soon!
