After reading Ken's request and Sheryl's answer, it is true we forget to clearly define an area for good birding because it has become so familiar to us. I recently had to ask directions for a place that was "in my own backyard" and didn't realize it. If I may, I recommend a book published by Indiana University Press called "Birding In Ohio". My son-in-law bought it for me about 5 years ago, and it has been wonderful to use.The author is Tom Thomson, and I'm sure you can go to the bookstores and still get it. (The ISBN for info is 0-253-20874-2). It divides the state into 7 sections, then alphabetically lists birding areas, state and local parks with nice directions, and often a map to help. It explains the environment and what may be found in the vicintity. I have found it to be a great resource for birding, and when we hit the road, I often take it with me just in case we can side-trip to an area.

Hope this offers another alternative for birding.
