A windy, snowy morning on the Lake Erie shores yielded
2 FOS birds for me.
Location: Cleveland Lakefront SP HQ
Observation date: 12/12/08
Notes: I found the owl in a pine tree on the directly east of the admin bldg.
I checked every pine tree within the area, and did find some signs (whitewash) on another
tree, but no owl.
Number of species: 3
Ring-billed Gull X
*Northern Saw-whet Owl* 1
Red-breasted Nuthatch 1
I then drove next door (west) and picked up the LTDU.
It was swimming around amongst the gulls.
Location: Cleveland Lakefront SP Marina
Observation date: 12/12/08
Notes: The Long-tailed Duck was a female
Number of species: 9
Canada Goose 20
American Black Duck 6
Mallard 23
Redhead 1
*Long-tailed Duck 1*
Hooded Merganser 1
American Coot 2
Ring-billed Gull 300
Great Black-backed Gull 2
It looked like there were a couple thousand assorted gulls
at the power plant warm water discharge. I didn't do a proper
scan as I didn't have time.
See you on the trails,
Chris Pierce
