I found a mixed blackbird flock north of the Lorain County Airport yesterday. Majority were European Starlings but there were smaller number of Common Grackles, Red-winged Blackbirds and at least four Rusty Blackbirds. The birds were found on Albrecht Road about a mile east of Oberlin Road crossing the road between lawns of a couple of private residences.
Also in that same area: dozens of American Tree Sparrows, a few Northern Cardinals, Dark-eyed Juncos, a Blue Jay, and many House Sparrows. At the Airport property on the south side were one light-morph Rough-legged Hawk, one American Kestrel, and a half-dozen Horned Larks. Later that afternoon, I spotted a female Northern Harrier on Butternut Ridge further south and east of the Airport.
West of the Airport, a farm field was being turned and a large flock of gulls were patrolling. This might be a good area to check for Buntings and Longspurs in the next several days.
Good birding.
