Visited Osprey nest sites at Hoover Reservoir and Alum Creek Friday.
Platform #2 at Hoover active with 3 chicks nearing fledging. Female still
feeding 2 younger chicks, oldest seemed to be doing fine on its own. Lots
of wing activity, especially by the largest chick.
2 adult Ospreys on nest or in nearby trees at Platform #1. One carried
sticks to the nest.
At Alum Creek Platform #4 is active with (at least) 2 chicks, much younger
than the ones at Hoover. Nests 2 and 3 are not active at this time, but
there were 2 adults perched at Platform #3. Female was on Platform #1,
with Male on one of the nearby poles to mark the area. Her behavior
suggested there could be one or more chicks, but I could not confirm while
I was there. One image appeared to have a very young chick, and at times
she seemed to be feeding.
I have posted images and video at http://www.flickr.com/nsxbirder.
