At 3 different locations around Columbus over the last 2 days I've found apparent migrant Louisiana Waterthrushes. Yesterday one was at Scioto Audubon park, while today single birds were at Tanager Woods and Big Walnut Park. This in itself wouldn't be unusual if they were on breeding territories. Waterthrushes have been on traditional territories for several weeks (at, for instance, Highbanks & Blendon Woods). But none of these locations is a breeding location, so these must be some late migration or wandering first year birds. If they are the former, you have to wonder where they're going. If they're the latter, did the species have such a successful breeding season last year? Has anyone else noted out-of-place Louisiana Waterthrushes in the past week?
