This is the Ohio Statewide Rare Bird Report for August 15, 2008.

SPECIES IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS ARE REVIEW-LIST SPECIES. Details of
these sightings are desired by The Ohio Bird Records Committee. Careful
observation, not ornithological expertise, is the only qualification
for submitting your data. For details and pointers see:

BLACK-NECKED STILT: Bill Whan passed along word that four birds,
apparently two pairs, were seen this week in a not-open-to-the-general-
public portion of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. Since the previously
reported birds near Bellevue were not found there this week, it is
tempting to think these are the same birds.

American Avocet: On the 9th, Jen Brumfield saw one at Conneaut,
Ashtabula County, arrive with a storm front. On the 14th, Julie Davis,
doing publicity for Columbus's new Grange Insurance Audubon Center,
spotted two nearby in the Scioto River.

Willet: One was reported multiple times from Conneaut this week.

Buff-breasted Sandpiper: Kenn Kaufman spotted a worn adult at the
flooded field near the railroad tracks along TR 292 in Sandusky County,
just north of the Seneca County line near Bellevue.

Red-necked Phalarope: On the 11th Roger Troutman spotted the first of
the season in a farm pond in southwestern Wayne County about one mile
southwest of Shreve Lake (Delorme Atlas p. 50 grid C2). The bird has
not be seen after the initial sighting.
