I was able to spend a few hours birding around Hoover Reservoir this
afternoon. It was really cold and windy--felt almost like the dead of
winter, but there were some good birds around. Highlights:
Oxbow:
American Tree Sparrow (1)
Purple Finch (1)
Red-breasted Merganser (2)
Hooded Merganser (8)
Boardwalk/Weise Rd:
Green-winged Teal (9)
Greater Yellowlegs (3)
Killdeer (~20)
Unidentified, distant shorebirds (~30, prob. mostly Killdeer, but some
smaller than Killdeer, a couple larger than Killdeer)
American White Pelican (1)
American Pipit (15)
Black Vulture (1)
Northern Harrier (1)
Bonaparte's Gull (~100)
Misc:
Ruddy Duck (8) near dam
Cedar Waxwing (~20) north of Oxbow along Old 3-C Hwy
Take care,
Nate Nye
