Just got back from looking for the scoter & gull reported yesterday. Arrived at the campground around 11 am. There were 2 rafts of both scaup sp fairly close to the ramp. Sitting on the water with them was the LESSER BLACK-BLACKED GULL. Just behind this group was a gathering of about 12 Herring Gulls ranging from adult to juvenile showing a good size comparison to the black-backed. No scoters however so I went over to Ward Rd ramp. Here I saw 2 ducks in the far distance which looked decent for scoter but just too far. I watched them for awhile until they took off back toward the campground ramp. From there I headed back to the campground hoping they had landed & indeed there in the same group of scaup & gulls were TWO SURF SCOTERS! Also joining the waterfowl group were 3 Redheads & 1 female Bufflehead. I left there around 12 pm with the scoters still present. Last place I saw the Black-backed Gull was flying off of Harveysburg Rd ramp so it seems to be moving around.
