I stopped by the Hopewell Wetlands (my name for it) near the COE Visitor
Center after work today. Just before 6:00 I saw a Short-eared Owl near
the lower pond. I was hoping for a short-ear but didn't really expect it
because the vegetation is shoulder high in most places. However, the
plants are short in the pond area due to this Summer's drought.

The bad news is that I also saw a Great-horned Owl perched in the tall
tree at the parking lot. I hope the short-ear makes it through the
night. If I can get back tomorrow evening I will check it out.

Good Birding
