Just as I was about to call it a day at La Due, I decided to drive through the
gravel parking lot for a last look by the boat house.

Right in front of my car, up came a flock of snow buntings. They settled
right back down again and continued feeding in the weeds growing through the
gravel. Eleven birds. Half an hour later, they were still poking around in the
grasses, and I backed out and left them undisturbed.
