Fourteen birders led by Jim McCormac traveled to Oak Openings Metro Park in
Lucas County today in search of birds, butterflies, Dragon Flies, Damsel
Flies and rare plants. We saw a good variety of each of these. Birds seen or
heard included:
Turkey Vulture
Broad-winged Hawk
Mourning Dove
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Red-headed Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Eastern Kingbird
Yellow-throated Vireo
Blue-headed Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo (Female on nest)
American Crow
Barn Swallow
Black-capped Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
House Wren
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Eastern Bluebird
American Robin
Gray Catbird
Cedar Waxwing
Yellow Warbler (1 Male, 1 Female, 1 Fledgling)
Ovenbird (1 Adult, 1 Fledgling)
Yellow-breasted Chat
Summer Tanager
Eastern Towhee
Chipping Sparrow
Field Sparrow
Lark Sparrow
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Blue Grosbeak (Singing Immature Male)
Indigo Bunting
Brown-headed Cowbird
Orchard Oriole (1 Male, 1 Female, 1 Immature)
