a red-necked grebe in winter plumage was found just off the breakwall this morning. the bird was observed for about 30 minutes and was floating eastward. also noted this morning were glaucous gull (2) and, as yesterday, thousands of bonaparte's gulls in the harbor area. our first 2007 chipping sparrows appeared today with two (2) birds at the beginning of the fisherman's path.
