I check Bluebird \ Tree Swallow boxes at the Highbanks Metro Park wetlands every week during the summer. Since 6/5, I have heard a Pied-billed Grebe calling each time that I was at the wetlands. Today, there was an adult Pied-billed Grebe with 6 young chicks following close behind. Pied-billed Grebes had bred at the wetlands for at least a couple of years prior to the start of the OBBA II but were not present in 2006 or 2007.
Earlier this summer, I observed a Hooded Merganser at the wetlands with 6 chicks so this has been a very productive year at a relatively small wetland.
Directions to Highbanks can be found at _www.metroparks.net_ (http://www.metroparks.net) .
