coming from out of the area to attend the Midwest Birding Symposium, should
be aware of the resources for local birding available through the website of
Black Swamp Bird Observatory (BSBO).

The BSBO main "birding page" includes a link to the latest information.
Featured right now is an update on current birding conditions at many of the
sites slated for field trips at the symposium, such as Ottawa NWR, Magee
Marsh, Toussaint Wildlife Area, East Harbor State Park, and Sheldon Marsh,
plus several other nearby sites. This writeup [...]51_16Sep200901:22:[log in to unmask]

Well, after I posted my second hand report of the Kirtlands Warbler at East Harbor State Park, I went to see it for myself. It had (of course) hidden itself away in the underbrush by the time that I (and many others) arrived. However, after I left, it was seen again by many observers between 3 and 4:30ish. The bird was hanging around a large locust tree on the east side of the Meadow Trail loop. It was again not visible when I went back. Oh well. Maybe it will still be around tomorrow.

Also, it is apparently a female or immature bird, not an adult male as previously posted.

Hopefully someone who has actually seen this bird will post more details, but I wanted to let potential chasers know that it was still there this afternoon.

Good Birding,

Steve Landes
