About an hour ago (1:20 pm) I had a flyby dove along US 23 about a mile
south of South Bloomfield. The bird was pale with pointed wings like a
mourning dove but seemed stockier and the tail appeared squared off, very
similar to the Eurasian collared doves I've seen in other states (and
countries). It was by itself. As usual with my route 23 sightings, the
bird was headed east at probably 40 mph and I was headed north at 55, so I
didn't have it under observation for long. [...]36_31Jul200714:40:[log in to unmask]

Ohio Birders-

Sorry about the long delay, but I've been out of the office.

I wanted to follow up on Greg Spahr's note from 22 June about management
practices at the Huffman Prairie at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where
mowing was done on the prairie before the safe dates.

The Nature Conservancy has not been involved with the management of the
Huffman Prairie since 2003. Any decisions regarding the ecological
management are now made by the National Park Service and the base. Any
management being done there now is done without The Nature Conservancy's
advisement or endorsement.

It is unfortunate that land management practices were done that impacted
at-risk species. I hope that this was an aberration.
