Several horned grebes were using Wards Canal yesterday adjacent to Metzger Marsh State Wildlife Area. Also many northern shovelers and gadwall in the marsh itself. In the fields along the drive back to Metzger were 8 sandhill cranes feeding in the corn stubble. Waterfowl are numerous in the marshes and surrounding area, with large rafts of diving ducks on the rivers, bays, and Lake Erie nearshore areas.
