Just heard from Matt Valencic that the pelicans at Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area, Sandusky Co., n. Ohio, were still present as of 10 a.m. today (Monday May 2). They were visible from the observation tower, in one of the impoundments to the north; two were off by themselves, and the rest were feeding actively (appearing to be engaged in cooperative foraging, swimming in a line to drive fish ahead of them, as this species is known to do at times). Matt said there were 19 individuals or possibly 20. With the cloudy, rainy weather today, I'd guess there's a good chance the pelicans will stay for a while (they tend to migrate on warm, sunny days when there are rising thermals).
