I spent some time this morning at Big Island Wildlife Area, around the
parking area west of the observation deck on Route 95. A Greater Yellowlegs
was seen on the pond west of the ditch across from the white building. This
was the first fall migrant I have seen.
Also of note was a single Cliff Swallow flying over the smaller pond behind
the white building. I observed it for a short time, then it flew west and I
could not relocate it.
Here is a complete list of the birds I saw.
Canada Goose 1
Mallard 1
Great Blue Heron 6
Turkey Vulture 2
Bald Eagle 1
Killdeer 69
GREATER YELLOWLEGS 1
Tree Swallow 2
CLIFF SWALLOW 1
Barn Swallow 4
Song Sparrow 2
Red-winged Blackbird 8
